Currently played by Kerson Leong, this is an ‘outstanding concert instrument in excellent condition’

Canimex has been loaning fine instruments to players for more than two decades. The Strad Calendar 2026 showcases twelve of these treasures, including five by Antonio Stradivari, two by Guarneri ‘del Gesù’, two by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini and – a first for the Calendar – a modern octobass.
1741 ‘Bohrer, Baumgartner’ Guarneri ‘del Gesù’ violin
The ‘Bohrer, Baumgartner’ takes its name from two previous owners: violin maker Fritz Baumgartner (who co-owned the instrument with Arnold Sprenger) and the German violinist and composer Anton Bohrer. A pupil of Rodolphe Kreutzer, Bohrer served as concertmaster of the Berlin Court Orchestra for three years from 1823. He took on the same role at the Hanover Orchestra in 1834.
The violin was sold in the early 20th century by the Stuttgart dealer Fridolin Hamma, whose certificate states that it is an ‘outstanding concert instrument in excellent condition’. The back is made from a single piece of maple of medium to wide flame, with a spruce top with fairly dark, narrow grain. It is now played by the soloist Kerson Leong.
