Violinist Antje Weithaas talks to Pauline Harding about her varied career in teaching, performance and, most recently, conducting, which is carrying her in new and exciting directions as she approaches her 60th birthday
Initially, the German violinist Antje Weithaas was not so keen to have a 60th birthday concert. ‘I did one for my 50th and it was such a stress,’ she says. ‘You have to play, so you can’t enjoy the day. You have to concentrate, you have to be focused. And then, after that, you can only start the party around 11pm!’ Nevertheless, when the Kronberg Academy offered her a chance to celebrate at its Casals Forum, she accepted. To perform a programme of her choice with cherished friends and colleagues was too good an offer to refuse…
