The British cellist’s latest album Song was released on 9 September
Sheku Kanneh-Mason’s new album Song gives an insight into the British cellist’s musical life, comprising everything from folk tunes to classical works including Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Stravinsky, to jazz melodies and an original pop song written by Sheku himself.
For their original song, Same Boat, Sheku collaborates with a good friend, singer-songwriter Zak Abel. As Sheku explains, they wanted to combine ’the raw intimate sound of Zak’s voice with the organic sounds of the cello’.
The cellist is the orchestra’s 2024 MAC Music Innovator, a role that works to showcase and highlight Black leaders of classical music
The cellist will work with the education charity to improve accessibility to music
