Violinist Yevgeny Kutik presents a video performance of Ysaÿe Sonata for Solo Violin no.3 in D minor, ‘Ballade’.
Kutik chose to record the work which had an influence on his formative violin-playing years. He says:
’My inspiration for recording and filming this piece is that I fell in love with it quite early in my violin-playing journey, long before it was something I was capable of playing. It became a sort of “traveler” with me along the way, and I worked on it with all three of my major teachers: Zinaida Gilels, Roman Totenberg, and Donald Weilerstein.
’Each brought something different to my understanding of the piece, and I still carry so much of that with me. It’s music I’ve kept coming back to over the years, and this feels like a meaningful way to share that long personal connection.’
