The Wiener Concert-Verein (WCV) has announced Canadian violinist Timothy Chooi as its new artistic partner. Regular collaborations are planned for the future, beginning with a tour this week with performances in Vienna, Grenoble and Aix-en-Provence. Chooi will perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and works by Kreisler with the orchestra.

Chooi is a laureate of many notable competitions, having won first prize at the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition, second prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition, as well as the Yves Paternot Prize at the Verbier Festival Academy. He has performed at venues including New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and the Berlin Philharmonie.

Chooi is currently professor of violin at the University of Ottawa, where he received the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research award in 2025.

‘When we first worked with Timothy Chooi in February 2022, there was an instant musical connection,’ said WCV artistic director Mira Weihs. ‘He returned to collaborate with us on several occasions, and each time our music-making proved profoundly inspiring and mutually enriching, encouraging us to deepen the partnership even further.’

Chooi likewise celebrated the collaboration:

‘It has been a joy to make music with this wonderful orchestra and to explore the Viennese sound tradition together. I’m grateful for their trust and excited for the musical journeys ahead.’
