British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason announced on 17 January that he has cancelled all upcoming performances of his European tour up until mid-March due to an ongoing left-hand finger injury.

He wrote on Instagram:

’Dear Friends, I’m writing again about the progress of the injury to my finger. I have been careful to rest over the holiday period and the recovery is going very well, which I’m happy about. With the necessary physio and gradually getting back to practice I will not, unfortunately, be able to perform until mid-March.

’I am aware that this will be disappointing news for my wonderful European audiences who have already bought tickets to the planned tour with Isata, as this will now need to be postponed. Sorry for this, and I am deeply grateful for your continued support.’

The cellist first cancelled concerts due to the injury at the end of November 2025, which saw the cancellation of all remaining 2025 concerts.

In mid-December, he also announced the cancellation of several North American January performances of Beethoven’s ‘Triple’ Concerto alongside his siblings, pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason and violinist Braimah Kanneh-Mason.

His 2026 European tour was planned to run from 5 February to 2 March. It included venues such as the Philharmonie Paris, Berlin’s Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal, Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw and London’s Wigmore Hall. The tour comprised a recital programme with his sister, Isata Kanneh-Mason, made up of works by Felix Mendelssohn, Nadia Boulanger, Robert Schumann and Rebecca Clarke.

The 2 March Wigmore Hall concert has been replaced by a recital by French cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca and French pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger.

The Strad wishes him a swift and full recovery.
