British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason has cancelled his concert appearances for the rest of 2025, due to an injury.

He posted on social media: ’Dear friends, I have recently sustained an injury to one of the fingers on my left hand and have been advised by my consultant to refrain from playing the cello while it heals.

’It’s with great sadness that I have had to cancel my concerts through the remainder of 2025. I really look forward to returning to the concert platform in 2026.’

Last weekend, Kanneh-Mason was to perform the world premiere of Edmund Finnis’ Cello Concerto with the LA Philharmonic, conducted by Roberto González-Monjas, in three performances at the Walt Disney Hall.

However, due to the injury, Kanneh-Mason was unable to play in the final matinee performance on Sunday 22 November.

Kanneh-Mason was scheduled to perform Bloch’s Schelomo with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Edward Gardner on Saturday 29 November. He has now been replaced by Nicolas Altstaedt.
