The violinist is currently on tour in Korea and will return to Carnegie Hall for the first time in eight years in November

The Korean violinist Kyung-Wha Chung has returned to performing in Korea, following an injury hiatus, and will return to Carnegie Hall in November.
Chung had previously taken a five-year career break in 2005 following an injury to her left index finger. She cancelled performances in 2021 due to a left-hand injury and has made limited appearances since then, including a rare duo recital in 2023 with her brother, Myung-whun Chung.
The 77-year-old is currently on tour in Korea, having performed in Pyeongtaek, Goyang, Seoul, with another performance in Tongyeong on 26 September.
The North American leg of her tour will kick off with an appearance at Carnegie Hall on 7 November with pianist Kevin Kenner, performing violin sonatas by Schumann, Grieg and Franck.
It will be her first appearance at Carnegie Hall since 2017, where she marked 50 years since her joint victory with Pinchas Zukerman at the 1967 Leventritt Competition - the competition that launched her international career.
Chung and Kenner will also perform in Worcester, MA, Princeton, NJ and Toronto, Canada.
In a press conference, Chung commented on her collaboration with Kenner, whom she described as her ’soulmate in music.’
’Our balance is excellent. When we share interpretations, the music that emerges is truly fascinating.
’Honestly, if my health allowed, I would have loved to do many more programs with Kevin: Schubert, Mozart, Beethoven, and so on. It’s only because my body hasn’t been in the best condition, but I still have so many things I want to do.’
Kyung-Wha Chung featured as the cover artist in The Strad’s December 2014 issue - read the digital edition here.
