Amorim Fine Violins in Cremona, Italy, has been targeted by TikTok scammers and is warning musicians not to engage with suspicious posts or messages.

The fake TikTok account, @amorim_fineviolins, has been messaging musicians, offering collaboration opportunities promoting instruments in exchange for receiving an instrument of choice after a six-month trial.

Amorim Fine Violins was alerted to the scam by numerous suspicious musicians who had received messages from the fake account. In correspondence seen by The Strad, the scammers reach out to musicians, requesting that the musicians choose an instrument to promote by posting and tagging the account on social media several times, and in return, receive the instrument after six months provided that the musician pays for shipping costs.

Amorim Fine Violins commented on the situation: ‘It has come to our attention that a fraudulent TikTok account is impersonating Amorim Fine Violins – Cremona, offering violins under a so-called “6-month trial to own” scheme.

‘We want to clearly state that this account has no connection to us and is not authorised to represent our name, instruments, or services.

‘Amorim Fine Violins does not offer instruments via TikTok or similar social media platforms in such a manner.’

The violin shop is taking steps to report the scam and have the account removed, and wishes to alert musicians and the wider community to avoid potential harm or confusion.

Amorim Fine Violins states it operates solely on TikTok via the handle @amorimfineviolins
