Boulanger joins the faculty as a viola da gamba teacher in the conservatoire’s ancient music department
Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) has announced the appointment of Lucile Boulanger as a viola da gamba teacher in its ancient music department.
Boulanger returns to her alma mater to take up the role. She began her first viola da gamba lessons at the age of five with Christine Plubeau, going on to study with Ariane Maurette, Jérôme Hantaï and Christophe Coin.
She is a prizewinner at international competitions, including the Bach-Abel Competition in Köthen, the Concorso of the Società Umanitaria of Milan, and the Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges.
She has played and recorded with Philippe Pierlot and the Ricercar Consort, as well as with François Lazarevitch, Justin Taylor, Pierre Gallon, the Ensemble l’Achéron, among others. She also regularly appears with larger groups such as Pygmalion directed by Raphaël Pichon, and as a recitalists in France and abroad.
Boulanger recorded her first album for Harmonia Mundi in 2018, focusing on Forqueray. She records for Alpha, the latest recording for which was La Messagère, featuring works by Hersant, Hotman, Machy, Marais, Pesson, Sainte-Colombe the Younger and Sinnhuber.
Recent highlights for Boulanger include the inception of her staged spectacle Phénix in collaboration with hip-hop choreographer Mourad Merzouki in 2022, and nominations in the Instrument Soloist category at the 2025 Victoires de la Musique and BBC Music Magazine Awards.
