Violinist Christine Bernsted presents a relentless performance of Lonely Suite: No Escape by contemporary American composer Lera Auerbach.
No Escape is the third movment from Auerbach’s Lonely Suite, Ballet for a Lonely Violinist.
’Auerbach’s piece is to me boldly imaginative and encapsulates the relatable feeling of loneliness as a classical musician in a very intuitive and natural way,’ says Bernsted.
’This resonates in most musicians from time to time with the many hours of practising, and No Escape is somehow an indispensable prerequisite for a classical musician, but that can nonetheless also be lonely.’
The piece features on Bernsted’s new album Speak, Memory, comprising the complete works for solo violin by Lera Auerbach as well as a world-premiere recording. The full album is out today, 24 January 2025, on Naxos.
