In a live performance recorded in November 2023, cellist Tommy Mesa performs Saint-Saëns’ ever-popular Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, conducted by music director Stuart Malina.
Cuban-American cellist Mesa received the 2023 Sphinx Medal of Excellence Award, first prize in the 2016 Sphinx Competition and was winner of the Astral Artists 2017 National Auditions. His solo engagements include appearances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Cleveland Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
