The Vienna Phillharmonic has announced that 13 musicians will join its academy. The young players will be in the programme from 2025 to 2027. Six of the 13 are strings players, they are:

Katharina Auer (violin)

Mei Kaneko (violin)

Constanze Koblitz (violin)

Antonia Ohnimus (viola)

Endre Steger (violoncello)

Benedikt Huber (double bass)

The orchestra founded the academy in 2018, with the first class running from 2019–2021. The academy trains the young musicians through individual private lessons, chamber music sessions, audition preparation and orchestral training. Academists are accompanied by members of the orchestra and soloists to work through solo repertoire. They will also have the opportunity to perform chamber music on stage with orchestra members.

As one of the world’s leading orchestras, the Vienna Philharmonic will give the academists the opportunity to work with renowned soloists and conductors. They will be able to interact with conductors in ‘meet and greet’ sessions.

The programme also includes courses, lectures and seminars on the history of the orchestra, media and social networking, and musicians’ physical health in order to avoid occupational illnesses.
