From Leicester to Lombardy: footballer Jamie Vardy admires some of the Museo del Violino’s finest instruments in celebration of his transfer to the club Cremonese

When one thinks of Cremona, naturally one thinks of the capital of the violin making world and its association with master luthiers throughout history.
So when it was announced that the Italian Serie A Cremonese football club had secured former Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy on a free transfer, the club made sure to feature violin making in some way.
As part of the transfer announcement, the club released a video of Vardy walking through one of Cremona’s most prized attractions – the Treasure Room at the Museo del Violino.
The Treasure Room holds several masterpieces of classical violin making, with instruments by Stradivari, plus the Amati and Guarneri families. Vardy strides through the room, admiring the instruments, to the soundtrack of Vivaldi’s ‘Winter’ from The Four Seasons.

’Jamie Vardy, who has made passion and tenacity the cornerstones of his football career, awaits a new adventure in Cremona, the world capital of violin making that prides itself on musical excellence,’ says Cremonese.
‘From dream to reality: StradiVardy is here!’
Vardy, 38, has signed a one-year contract with Cremonese. The club was promoted to Serie A in the 2024–25 season. Vardy has a further year on offer should the club avoid relegation.
Vardy joined Leicester in 2012 and has been without a club since his contract expired in June. He was part of the winning team during Leiceister’s Premier League-winning season in 2015-16.
