The French cellist will become a lecturer in chamber music and academic coordinator at the Haute École de Musique’s Valais-Wallis campus

French cellist Ophélie Gaillard has been named a lecturer in chamber music and academic coordinator at the Haute École de Musique’s Valais-Wallis campus, located in Sion, Switzerland. She will begin in the role this coming autumn and will replace Daniel Haefliger, who is taking his retirement at the end of this academic year. 

Gaillard is currently a professor at the Haute École de Musique de Genève since 2014. She also frequently gives masterclasses across the world, including at the American Schools of Art in Fontainebleau, as well as in Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and Brazil. Gaillard is a sought-after jury member and has served on juries including the ARD Competition, Concours de Genève, Isang Yun Competition and most recently served on the jury of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. 

As a soloist, she has performed with orchestras including the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre national de Metz, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra and New Japan Philharmonic.

She records for the Aparté label, having produced several complete collections of composers including Bach, Britten, Schumann, Fauré, Chopin, Brahms, C.P.E. Bach and Strauss.
