Upon the discovery of an unknown solo Sonata by Ysaÿe, adding to his famous six, this documentary follows violinist Philippe Graffin as he searches for traces of Ysaÿe around the world. Released in February 2020, this film was made with the contribution of the commune of Knokke-Heist, The Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, les Amis du Zoute, and with the help of Graffin’s students.

This video is referenced in our February 2024 feature on Ysaÿe’s Poème Concertant, a work for violin and orchestra that had lain undiscovered for more than a century. Graffin uncovers the history and inspiration behind the work, which he has recently recorded.
