The violinist and friends went on a tour of six French cathedrals with proceeds going to the restoration

Violinist Renaud Capuçon has completed a tour of six French cathedrals, with money raised going towards the restoration of the Notre Dame de Paris, as well as to the maintenance funds of each host cathedral.

During the month of September in concerts at the cathedrals of Chartres, Reims, Lyon, Paris, Amiens and Bordeaux, Capuçon performed the string trio version of the Goldberg Variations alongside colleagues including violists Gérard Caussé and Adrien La Marca, and cellists Julia Hagen, Victor Julien-Lafferiere and Edgar Moreau.

The tour is reported to have raised over €100,000.

‘Playing Bach in these sacred places has given me the certainty that music soothes the spirit,’ Capuçon wrote on completing the tour.

‘I’m heading home with a light heart.’
