Eight prizes and three distinctions were awarded in the violin, viola, and cello divisions

The 15th edition of the Michał Spisak International Music Competition for violinists, violists and cellists concluded with a laureates’ concert on 10 October at the Theatre Hall of the Zagłębie Palace of Culture in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland. The winners were accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Zabrze Philharmonic, conducted by Slawomir Chrzanowski.

In the violin category, the first prize of PLN16,000 (£3,260) was awarded jointly to Norwegian violinist Bjørg Pas and Polish violinist Zofia Anna Olesik. The second prize was not awarded, while the third prize of PLN9,000 (£1,830) went to Macao–Portuguese violinist Tin Ut Cheong. A distinction of PLN6,000 (£1,220) was awarded to Polish violinist Małgorzata Kucharek.

In the viola division, the first prize of PLN16,000 (£3,260) was won by Chinese violist Jingyu Wu, the second prize of PLN12,000 (£2,450) by Polish violist Julia Wawrowska, and the third prize of PLN9,000 (£1,830) by Chinese violist Zeyang Kan.

In the cello category, the first prize of PLN16,000 (£3,260) was jointly awarded to Polish cellists Filip Krzeszowiec and Antoni Wrona, but neither the second nor third prize were awarded. Distinctions of PLN6,000 (£1,220) were given to French cellist Eléonore Rannou and Polish cellist Michał Hałoń.

This year’s jury comprised Marcin Baranowski, Eszter Haffner, Aneta Dumanowska, Tomoko Akasaka, Tomasz Strahl, Mats Lidström, Roman Widaszek, Zofia Pielgrzym, Damian Walentek, Piotr Janosik and Elżbieta Mrożek-Loska, with Szymon Krzeszowiec as chairman.
