The Elmore Quartet has received first prize in the Royal Over-Seas League Competition strings and keyboard ensemble division. The quartet receives £10,000 and will play at Wigmore Hall on 15 May for the Gold Medal Final, in which the other divisions’ winners will compete.
The Elmore Quartet was founded in 2017 in Manchester. It comprises violinists Xander Croft and Miles Ames, violist Inis Oírr Asano and cellist Gabriel Francis-Dehqani. The ensemble currently holds the position of Hans Keller Chamber Fellows at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama following a fellowship position at the Royal Northern College of Music.
The group has performed throughout the UK and Europe, including in venues such as Wigmore Hall, Kings Place London, Conway Hall, Brighton Dome and Bridgewater Hall. Other awards include third prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition, the Kirckman Concert Society Award and Tunnell Trust Award.
In 2024, the group was selected as Penzance MusicAbility Foundation’s first resident string quartet in partnership with the Frost Trust. The three-year position includes regular performances at the Concerts Penzance concert series. The quartet most recently joined Italy’s Le Dimore del Quartetto network upon invitation.
