Handel’s 1727 anthem Zadok the Priest was composed for the coronation of King George II. Since then it has been performed at every UK coronation, up to and including that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
In 2002 it was performed once again, at the 2002 ‘Prom at the Palace’ marking the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. In this performance, Andrew Davis conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony Chorus.
