Abel Selaocoe’s ensemble Chesaba perform his original composition Ka Bohaleng. The work is an ode to strong women who nurture with power and raise their family through tough circumstances, based on the saying ’Mosadi o tshwara thipa ka bohaleng’. In the South African language of Sesotho, it means ’a woman holds a knife on the sharp side’.
The performers of Chesaba in this video are Abel Selaocoe on cello/vocals, Sidiki Dembele on djembe,congas and calabash, and Alan Keary on electric bass guitar.
Ka Bohaleng will feature on Selaocoe’s upcoming album Where Is Home (Hae Ke Kae), to be released on Warner Classics on 23 September 2022.
