Given that we have no original painting, it's hard to say something is in the wrong style, or a counterfeit.
It may well be in the wrong style for Francesco Gialdisi, but the article says it may be an anonymous copy of his paining, rather than his own work.
The article also says the inscription was added later.
The important point is that, unlike the popular portrait, it was made during Strad's lifetime, and therefore *could* be a more accurate likeness.
