US violinist Bryan Lee joins the quartet, while continuing his role as second violinist of the Dover Quartet

The New York-based Escher Quartet has announced the appointment of US violinist Bryan Lee as its new second violinist, who takes over the role from violinist Brendan Speltz. He joins first violinist Adam Barnett-Hart, violist Pierre Lapointe, and cellist Brook Speltz.
Lee is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and has studied with teachers including Pamela Frank, Victor Danchenko, Soovin Kim, and Choong-Jin Chang.
Among his accomplishments, he has won the second prize at the 2004 Kingsville Young Performers Competition, the bronze medal at the 2005 Stulberg International String Competition, and has performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Lansdowne, Temple University, and Delaware symphony orchestras. He has also attended programmes including the Perlman Music Program, La Jolla Music Society’s Summerfest, and Ravinia’s Steans Institute.
Lee is currently the second violinist of the Philadelphia-based Dover Quartet, a role he will continue alongside his new quartet commitment. He is also a faculty member at the Curtis Institute of Music and teaches at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music.
The Escher Quartet was established in 2005 and was soon invited as quartet in residence at the Perlman Chamber Music Program in New York and Pinchas Zukerman’s Young Artist Program at the National Arts Centre in Canada. The quartet has since been a BBC New Generation Artist, received an Avery Fisher Career Grant, and now performs as season artists of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Enjoying success in both the US and abroad, the Escher Quartet has performed at festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, Hong Kong Chamber Music Festival, Music@Menlo, and the Perth International Arts Festival, as well as at Cadogan Hall for the BBC Proms and regular concerts at Wigmore Hall.
‘We’re thrilled to welcome violinist Bryan Lee as the new second violinist of the Escher Quartet!’ the quartet announced on social media.
‘Bryan is celebrated for his exceptional artistry and depth of chamber music experience… We can’t wait to start making music together and share this next chapter with you!’
