A new chin rest designed for flexibility and adjustability

‘I’ve found in my practice and teaching that the bigger the contact area with your chin rest, the more likely you are to press into it,’ says Berent Korfker, violinist and designer of Pirastro’s new KorfkerSpring chin rest. ‘And even though a sculpted chin rest can feel comfortable at first, it can eventually make you freeze in one position, affecting your freedom and flexibility. With my latest design I want to help players to use their upper body with more autonomy.’ Both the new chin rest’s height and its plate angle are adjustable. Furthermore, the plate is convex instead of concave ‘so that you can touch it in many different places instead of being locked in one place’. This freedom, Korfker explains, will ultimately benefit the player’s physical wellbeing…
