Violist Timothy Ridout and pianist Jonathan Ware perform a work from their new album, Alto Appassionato, out now on Harmonia Mundi.
The new album celebrates the viola in French works written at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. As well as three original works by Honnoré, Büsser and Enescu, the album also contains Ridout’s transcriptions of the Franck Sonata, plus six songs by Gabriel Fauré.
’I find the Franck fits ideally to the viola, with sound worlds of both the violin and also the cello and of course the unique voice of the viola,’ says Ridout.
