Watch violist Timothy Ridout and pianist James Baillieu perform ‘First Meeting (Souvenir)’ by Eric Coates in The Red House - Benjamin Britten’s library in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. This is part of the teaser trailer for ’Cinderella No More: The English Viola Legacy’ - a six-episode documentary is about the history of the viola in England. It focuses on the father of modern viola playing, Lionel Tertis, but also features other significant viola composers and players’ birthplaces and towns.

The documentary is commissioned by the British Viola Society as part of the Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition, taking place at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire from 6 to 12 November 2021. Ridout was the winner of the inaugural competition in 2014.
