12 Ensemble performs Arvo Pärt’s seminal work Fratres, filmed live at LSO St Luke’s as part of Barbican Pärt at 90 celebrations, November 2025.
The solo violin part is performed by Eloisa-Fleur Thom. 12 Ensemble comprises: violin 1 - Ellie Consta, Maria Gîlicel, Gemma Sharples; violin 2 - Tanja Roos, Emily Holland, Eliette Harris; viola - Miguel Sobrinho, Connie Pharoah, May Dolan; cello - Max Ruisi, Clare O’Connell, Colin Alexander, Wallis Power and bass - Toby Hughes.
Cellist and artistic director Max Ruisi reflects on the performance: ‘Arvo Pärt’s music has been a recurring presence in 12 Ensemble’s musical landscape ever since we formed in East London back in 2012, and the Barbican has been a natural home for our work for almost as long.
’Bringing the hall’s 90th-birthday focus on Pärt to a close felt like an ideal opportunity to draw on that shared history while placing his music in direct conversation with a new generation of composers and contemporary artists.
’Eloisa’s searing account of Fratres was a deeply personal close to a very special evening.’
It was filmed and edited by Jessie Rodger, with filming assistant Emma Werner, recorded by Chris Kalcov and mixed by Brett Cox.
