Danish violinist Adam Koch joins the ensemble as first violin

The Berlin-based Vision Quartet has announced the appointment of its new first violinist, Danish violinist Adam Koch, joining German members violinist Daniel Stoll, violist Sander Stuart and cellist Leonard Disselhorst. He takes over the role from German violinist Florian Willeitner, who will depart the group in order to move back to his home region of Bavaria.
Koch is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, studying with teachers including Kolja Blacher, Serguei Azizian, Eszter Haffner and Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider. He has won prizes at competitions including the 2019 Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, the International Johannes Brahms Competition, and the International Mozart Competition, and has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and the Leopoldinum String Orchestra.
The Vision Quartet was established in 2012 and has won the first prize at notable competitions including the Concours de Genève and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition. The ensemble has performed at festivals such as the Beethovenfest Bonn and Trondheim Chamber Music Festival, and at prestigious venues including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Berlin Philharmonie and London’s Wigmore Hall.
Previous mentors of the group include the Artemis Quartet while at the Berlin University of the Arts; the Alban Berg Quartet’s Günter Pichler while at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía; as well as Heime Müller, Eberhardt Feltz and Gerhard Schulz.
In a post on social media, the quartet recognised Willeitner’s contribution, and celebrated its newest member:
‘We’re so grateful for the music, the adventures, and the way he pushed every boundary with us. Florian, you’ll always be part of our creative team, even from afar. Wishing you all the best for your next musical journey!
‘Since we’ve known for quite some time that Florian’s path and ours would eventually diverge again, over the past few months we’ve already been playing with the amazing Adam Koch from Denmark - who will become our official new first violinist.
‘Adam brings not only extraordinary talent, but also a fresh, Nordic energy that we can’t wait to share with you – blonde, yes, but curly and other than that, a perfect fit.
’Here’s to new sounds, new stories, and the next thrilling chapter. Skål!’
Willeitner will continue to play with the quartet for a few further concerts, including the ensemble’s residency at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, before Koch assumes the role.
