A violinist is appealing for the safe return of his instrument after it was left on a train in southern England.

Joseph Maher, a second violinist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), was travelling to a rehearsal in London on Friday 10 April when he inadvertently left his violin case on the 09.01 service from Haywards Heath to Blackfriars in carriage no.8.

The case contained his violin and bows. The violin is a 20th‑century instrument by Paul Jocelyn. The bows are a Hill bow, gold‑mounted with a fleur‑de‑lys, and a silver‑mounted Martin.

The instrument and bows were carried in a dark grey fibreglass case bearing an LPO luggage label.

Maher has issued an appeal for the instrument’s safe return. British Transport Police have been informed and have issued reference number 2600046784.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the instrument is asked to contact +44 (0)7801 598483.
