The German violist and conductor will assume teaching duties in September 2026

The Forum Musikae Higher School of Music in Madrid, Spain, has announced the appointment of violist and conductor Hartmut Rohde as professor of viola, effective September 2026.
’We are delighted to welcome Hartmut Rohde to Forum Musikae. His appointment will be a great source of inspiration for our students and audiences alike,’ said María Casado, the principal of Forum Musikae.
Rohde is widely regarded as one of the most sought-after European violists of his generation, internationally active as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor.
A prizewinner at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb and the Naumburg Competition in New York, he has performed at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Concertgebouw, and collaborates regularly with renowned conductors and composers.
As an educator, Rohde he has been a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts since 1993, and is also an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has been the artistic director of the International Max Rostal Competition Berlin since 1998.
