Twelve cellists will compete for a place in the semi-final round
The cello division of the 2026 George Enescu International Competition is currently underway in Bucharest, Romania. Of the original 50 candidates, twelve cellists have been selected to take part in the second round, which takes place from 2–3 September at the Romanian Athenaeum. They are:
- Miriam Bensaïd, France
- Yunseo Cho, South Korea
- Goeunsol Heo, South Korea
- Seojin Jung, South Korea
- Joshua Kováč, United States
- Jeri Lee, South Korea
- Ethan Murphy, United States
- Samuel Niederhauser, Switzerland
- Sanghyeok Park, South Korea
- Francesco Stefanelli, Italy
- Ziyang Zhao, China
- Amelia Zitoun, United States
They will perform recitals of up to 45 minutes, with repertoire including a mandated work from the competition; a choice of cello sonatas by Brahms, Britten, Debussy and Shostakovich; and a virtuosic work selected from a list including Boulanger, Davydov, Popper and Rostropovich. Six cellists will be chosen to proceed to the semi-final round on 5 September.
The final round of the cello division will take place on 7 September, with cellists competing for a first prize of €15,000.
This year’s jury is presided by Arto Noras and comprises Claudio Bohórquez, Marin Cazacu, Enrico Dindo, Elena Dubinets, Frans Helmerson, Dan Prelipcean, Valentin Răduțiu and Inbal Segev.
