The former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic becomes the Zagreb Soloists’ principal guest concertmaster beginning with the 2026/27 season
The Zagreb Soloists in Croatia has announced the appointment of violinist, conductor and composer Guy Braunstein as its principal guest concertmaster, beginning with the ensemble’s 2026/27 season.
Braunstein served as concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic for 13 years, having joined the orchestra in 2000 as the youngest concertmaster in its history. Since leaving the orchestra in 2013, he has pursued an international career as a soloist, conductor and composer, appearing with leading orchestras and at major concert halls around the world.
His appointment in Zagreb follows a series of collaborations with the Zagreb Soloists over the past two seasons.
‘After the first time I played with them, I wanted to come back. After the second time, I wanted more,’ Braunstein said of the collaboration. ‘With these musicians, everything is possible.’
During the 2026/27 season, Braunstein will lead the Zagreb Soloists in several programmes, including the season-opening concert on 3 October with Israeli cellist Zvi Plesser, featuring Violins of Hope. He will also lead a renewed collaboration between the Zagreb Soloists and students of the University of Zagreb Academy of Music.
The Zagreb Soloists was founded in 1953. Its 73rd season will include a roster of guest leaders including Gordan Nikolić, former concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra; Ilya Gringolts, Kevin Zhu and Sreten Krstić.
