Violinist Laura Rickard will take up both roles
British violinist Laura Rickard has been appointed violin professor and, from January 2027 onwards, deputy head of strings at London’s Royal College of Music. The British violinist said on social media about the news:
’I’m really looking forward to working with the amazing faculty and students at the RCM. It’s a huge honour to be taking on this role, following on from the frankly legendary Gaby Lester.’
Rickard is an alumna of both St John’s College, Cambridge, and the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Erich Gruenberg, Remus Azoitei and Alex Redington. She was awarded an honorary DipRAM as well as the Doris Faulkner Prize for her outstanding studentship.
She is founding member of the Mila Piano Trio and the Goethe String Quartet, with which she performs extensively in the UK and internationally. Recent highlights have included residencies at Yellow Barn, Vermont, and the Presteigne Festival. In 2018 she founded Romsey Chamber Music Festival, which she continues to lead as artistic director.
Previous teaching appointments include the Royal Academy of Music and King’s College London. She has given masterclasses worldwide and coached chamber music at the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, and is on the faculty of Cadenza International Summer Music School in the UK.
