Moncado is the first recipient of the award in 13 years and receives €10,000
Anne-Sophie Mutter has awarded the 2026 Aida Stucki Prize to violinist Elias David Moncado, in recognition ‘of his outstanding contribution to the canon of young violin soloists’.
The award is facilitated by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation. Named after the Swiss violinist and Mutter’s former teacher, Aida Stucki was one of Carl Flesch’s last students and trained two generations of violinists at the Zurich University of Arts.
Moncado received the award from Mutter following his debut recital at the Lucerne Festival, where he performed with pianist Lauma Skride.
The award carries a cash value of €10,000 and is only awarded at the discretion of the foundation. The inaugural recipient was double bassist Roman Patkoló in 2011, while cellist Daniel Müller-Schott was the last recipient of the award in 2013.
The presentation was followed by two world premieres commissioned by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, Jeogori for solo violin by Texu Kim, performed by Ye-Eun Choi, and Kinderszenen for string quartet, performed by Moncado, David Tobin, Hwayoon Lee and Lionel Martin.
Moncado, 25, won first prize and ten special prizes at the 2019 Karol Lipinski Competition in Poland, plus victories at both the 2021 Valsesia Musica and Vladimir Spivakov international competitions. He is currently a scholarship holder of the Anne-Sophie-Mutter and the Gautier Capuçon Foundation.
