Stewart, who received an unexpected medical diagnosis, will focus on composing until his return to performing
Curtis Stewart has announced that he will curtail his performing engagements until spring 2027, having received an ‘unexpected medical diagnosis’.
Stewart announced his decision on social media, saying that the diagnosis has forced him to step back from performance this autumn to focus on his recovery.
’I will be devoting this time to composing, and I plan to return to performance in spring 2027.
’If you know me, you know this experience will soon find its way into my music. Thank you to the presenters, collaborators, and audiences who make this work possible.’
A seven-time Grammy Award-nominated violinist and composer, Stewart is a recipient of the 2025 Sphinx Medal of Excellence and is a member of the PUBLIQuartet. He recently released a recording of his 24 American Caprices on Bright Shiny Things in June 2026. Stewart serves as artistic director of the American Composers Orchestra and as professor at The Juilliard School.
