Cellists Tom Landschoot and Jeffrey Noel Lastrapes will take up their new roles in autumn this year

The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) has announced the appointment of two cellists to its faculty. Belgian cellist Tom Landschoot joins as professor of cello, while US cellist Jeffrey Noel Lastrapes takes up the position of Director of Academy Strings and professor of cello. Both will assume their new roles in autumn this year.
Landschoot has previously taught as professor of cello at the Arizona State University, where he received the Herberger College of Fine Arts Distinguished Teaching Award, as well as at the University of Michigan, the Shieh Chien University, and programmes including the Meadowmount School of Music. He has been a member of the Rossetti Quartet since 2013 and has collaborated with artists including the Takács Quartet, the Arianna Quartet, as well as members of the Tokyo, Vermeer, and Cleveland quartets.
Lastrapes is a graduate of CIM and the Juilliard School, where he studied with Orlando Cole and Harvey Shapiro respectively. He has previously taught at the Texas Tech University, Oklahoma State University, and continues his role as part of the cello and chamber music faculty at the Interlochen Arts Camp, a position he has held since 1996. In 2025, he received the Phyllis Young Outstanding Studio Teacher of the Year award from the Texas String Teachers Association.
‘We are thrilled to welcome Tom and Jeff to our cello faculty,’ said Scott Harrison, CIM’s executive vice president and provost. ‘Both are deeply committed educators and extraordinary artists whose insight, rigor, and mentorship will elevate our Conservatory and Academy students’ playing to the highest level. Their combined experience and musical leadership will be invaluable in preparing the world’s most talented cello students not only to refine their artistry, but to compete successfully for today’s top-echelon music careers.’
