Taiwan’s Evergreen Symphony Orchestra (ESO) has announced the appointment of Ting-shuo Chang as its concertmaster, where he will serve in rotation with another leader yet to be selected.

Based in Germany, Chang has served as concertmaster of the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra in Germany, the Grafenegg Academy Orchestra in Austria, the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy in Japan and the Weiwuying Contemporary Ensemble in Kaohsiung.

He has also played in the Verbier Festival Orchestra and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra.

Chang is a graduate of the University of Music and Theatre Hamburg, where he studied under Andreas Röhn, former concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

The ESO appointed conductor Jaap van Zweden as its artist in residence in January 2025. Since then, van Zweden has overseen the appointments of ten new players.

Chang previously collaborated with van Zweden in Switzerland in 2021 at the Gstaad Festival Orchestra. On his appointment, Chang said: ’Together with the members of the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, I very much look forward to working with maestro van Zweden again and contributing to Taiwan’s music scene.’
