A violinist and a string quartet are among the artists selected for the professional development scheme, which offers professional engagements around the UK, a London recital debut and recording opportunities

The Tillett Debut Scheme has announced the artists selected for its 2026 awards, continuing its long-standing commitment to identifying and supporting some of the most promising young musicians in the UK.
The Scheme provides vital career development opportunities to outstanding young musicians, including professional engagements around the UK, a London recital debut and professional recordings.
The 2026 Tillett Debut Scheme artists include violinist Basil Alter and the Neruda Quartet. US violinist Alter studied at the Manhattan School of Music and London’s Royal Academy of Music and is additionally a City Music Foundation artist.
Solo appearances of Alter’s season include the concerto performances and numerous recital appearances. In the US, upcoming performances include appearances in New York City at the Frick Collection and on the Memphis Chamber Music Society with pianist Evan Solomon. He is a prizewinner at several international competitions, including second prize at the Julio Cardona competition in Portugal.
The Neruda Quartet was founded at the Royal Academy of Music in October of 2024. It comprises violinists Adriana Bec and Yiu Hang Leung, violist Mina Mazur and cellist Jim Goss.
The ensemble served as representatives of the Academy at the International Orchestral Symposium, held at the Tianjin Juilliard School in May 2025.
Alongside Alter and the Neruda Quartet, the 2026 Scheme cohort includes the Dogoda Wind Quintet and pianist Milda Daunoraite.
Since its inception, the Tillett Debut Scheme has supported numerous artists who have gone on to establish significant international careers. The Scheme remains dedicated to fostering excellence, opportunity and artistic ambition within the UK’s vibrant classical music community.
The Tillett Trust was founded in 1970 thanks to a generous bequest from Mrs. Emmie Tillett. Known as the ‘Duchess of Wigmore Street’ she ran the leading British concert agency of its time, Ibbs and Tillett. The Tillett Trust is committed to ensuring that her contribution continues to have a lasting and positive impact on young classical musicians.
