Chinese cellist Bonian Tian has won first prize at the George
Enescu International Competition in Bucharest, Romania. The
25-year-old, who studies with Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg
Academy in Germany, received €15,000. Second prize in the cello
division went to Valentin Radutiu, 25, from Romania. Michael
Korman, also 25, from Israel.
There was no first prize awarded in the violin section of the
competition. Armenian-born Haik Kazazyan, 29, and Alexandra
Conunova, 23, from Moldova, shared second prize, each receiving
€10,000. Third prize went to Antal Szalai, 30, from Hungary.
