The cellists are competing for a YEN5,000,000 (£25,000) first prize

Three cellists have been chosen for the finals of the Tokyo Minato City International Music Competition (TMCIMC), which will take place at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall on 2 October.
The finalists are: Guillem Gràcia Soler (Spain, 19), Woochan Jeong (Korea, 26), Yoonsoo Yeo (Korea/New Zealand, 23). All three finalists will perform the first movement of Haydn’s Cello Concerto no.2 and Elgar’s Cello Concerto in the final.
The three cellists are competing for a first prize worth YEN5,000,000 (£25,000) as well as a recital in Japan. Second prize is worth YEN2,000,000 (£10,000) while third prize is worth YEN1,000,000 (£5,000). An Audience Award and Encouragement Award will also be given. Both are worth YEN300,000 (£1,500).
This edition’s jury is chaired by Shinozaki Maro Fuminori and comprises Peter Hörr, Massimo Macri, Matthijs Broersma, Seungmin Kang, Unno Mikio and Watanabe Genichi.
The TMCIMC takes place every year, alternating between violin, cello and piano.
