The annual prize is given by the Foundation of the Geigenbauschule Brienz in Switzerland

American violist and New England Conservatory professor Kim Kashkashian was awarded the Golden Bow by the Foundation of the Geigenbauschule Brienz at Switzerland’s Meiringen Music Festival during July.

Given annually by the Swiss violin making school, the prize honours distinguished contributions to the world of strings and takes the form of an engraved golden bow, manufactured by Johannes and Marianne Finkel of the bow workshop Bogenwerkstätte Brienz AG.

Previous winners have included Thomas Zehetmair, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Leonidas Kavakos, Natalia Gutman and Thomas Demenga.
