The Ligeti Quartet, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, performs Christian Mason’s Dyngylday, the first track from Songbooks, the ensemble’s album of Mason compositions inspired by traditional overtone singing, due for release on nonclassical in October 2020.

Mason’s compositions explore the way in which the acoustic properties of the string quartet emulate the human voice through the use of extended techniques and unique sound-worlds. The album features two projects, one inspired by the Tuvan vocal tradition of Khöömii and one by the practice of the Tenores in Sardinia.
