Online auction house Tarisio is to sell the entire collection of William Moennig & Son, the Philadelphia violin shop that closed in December 2009 after 100 years in business. The sale from 22-24 June will comprise more than 800 lots of instruments, bows, photographs, books and seasoned tonewood.

Some of the more notable items in the collection include a rare Ferdinand Gagliano viola d'amore, bow cases by Sartory and Tubbs, and a group of 60 to 70 violin heads - some by 18th- and 19th-century Italian makers such as Testore, Landolfi and Gagliano.
