Up to 3,000 primary school children and teachers took part in a violin performance on 28 September in the district of Pinggu near Beijing, China. The event, entitled ‘China Music Valley, Celebrating China’, took place at the weekend to mark the National Day of the People’s Republic of China on 1 October.

The performance was organised jointly by the People’s Government of Donggaocun Town and the Pinggu District Education Commission. According to a report in the People’s Daily newspaper, it aimed to promote ‘the deep integration of industry, education, art and cultural tourism’. The event is also linked to the ‘Violins in Schools’ initiative, recently launched to integrate violin lessons into the regular music curriculum in all primary schools in the district.
