Maestro Arts has added the Takács Quartet to its roster, with Thomas Hull assuming worldwide management outside North and South America. He succeeds Christa Phelps, who has represented the ensemble since 1984 and will continue to manage its European touring through March 2027.

Seldy Cramer remains the quartet’s long-time manager in North and South America.

Hull said: ’I have long been a fan of the Takács Quartet, so when the opportunity came to succeed their wonderful manager Christa Phelps, I couldn’t resist. It’s a privilege to work with an ensemble with such a legacy, whose constant search for fresh perspectives and openness to new ideas makes them a natural fit for Maestro Arts.’

Edward Dusinberre, first violinist since 1993, said: ’At this pivotal moment we are very grateful to Christa for her unwavering support, creativity and commitment over many decades. We are delighted to welcome Mihai into the group and excited about our new projects.

’As we develop commissions and interdisciplinary concepts, we are excited to partner with the dynamic and imaginative team at Maestro Arts. We’ve known Tom Hull for many years and are delighted to be working with him.’

The Takács Quartet is in its 52nd year, with remaining founding member, cellist András Fejér, stepping down at the end of the 2025/26 season. He will be succeeded by Mihai Marica, who will join current quartet members violinists Edward Dusinberre and Harumi Rhodes, and violist Richard O’Neill from 1 September 2026.

Since 1986 the ensemble has held a residency at University of Colorado, Boulder, balancing an extensive international touring schedule with its longstanding commitment to teaching. The quartet has won numerous accolades including Grammy and Gramophone awards, and since 2005 has recorded exclusively for Hyperion.

Final concerts with Fejér will take place at the Music Academy of the West in early July, ahead of future projects that include the Franck Piano Quintet with Steven Osborne and a recording of music by Gabriela Lena Frank.
