Portuguese double bassist Nuno Osório assumes the role

The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande has announced the appointment of its new assistant principal bassist, Portuguese double bassist Nuno Osório. He joins current principal bassists Héctor Sapiña Lledó and Bo Yuan, and assistant principal bassist Ivy Wong.

Osório was born in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal, in 1997. He has studied at ARTAVE with Rui Fontes, at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim in Germany with Petru Iuga, and has continued studying with Iuga at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland. Osório is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in orchestration.

Osório has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa, as well as the Gustav Mahler and European Union youth orchestras.

Among his accolades, he has received first prize at the Galicia Graves Competition, and second prize at the Vasco Barbosa String Competition, the Prémio Jovens Músicos Competition and the Latin Orchestra of Europe International Online Competition. In 2018 and 2021, he appeared as a soloist with the Kurpfalzisches and Lausanne chamber orchestras respectively.
