ORBI (Oscillating Revenge of the Background Instruments) is a genre‑defying project led by double bassist Rick Stotijn — principal bass of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and The Strad’s October 2022 cover star. He is joined by bandmates Bram van Sambeek, bassoon soloist and teacher at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Sven Figee (Hammond organ) and Marijn Korff de Gidts (drums). The band’s members spotlight their bass‑heavy instruments in a volatile mix of classical music, rock and progressive metal.
ORBI have released Unsustainable, the first single from their forthcoming album The Age of Greed, which will be released on 8 May 2026 on Platoon. An arrangement by bassoonist Bram of a song by English rock back Muse, Unsustainable offers a first taste of the album’s sound-world – which the band describe as ‘Prokofiev in a mosh pit with Muse, conducted by Mahler, volume cranked to eleven.’
