The Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil) has announced the appointment of Vineta Sareika as its next concertmaster, starting in the 2026/27 season. Sareika takes up the role having served as guest concertmaster for the orchestra’s performances of Die Walküre last month.

The Latvian violinist previously served as first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2023 to 2025, the first woman to hold the position in the orchestra’s history.

She has performed as guest concertmaster with Boston Symphony Orchestra, Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Munich Philharmonic, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dresden Philharmonie, Brussels Royal Opera Orchestra, and the Brussels Philharmonic. From 2010 to 2013 she was the principal concertmaster of Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

Sareika was a member of the Artemis Quartet and has performed regularly with French pianist Amandine Savary, with whom she formed Trio Dali. She teaches chamber music at the University of the Arts in Berlin and serves as a jury member in violin and chamber music competitions worldwide.

On her appointment, Sareika said: ’It’s official, and I couldn’t be happier!

’I am deeply grateful and honoured, and I am looking forward to this journey with absolute joy, passion, and curiosity. See you soon, L.A.!’
