The British ensemble welcomes Maja Horvat as its new violinist
The Heath Quartet has announced the appointment of Maja Horvat. She succeeds Juliette Roos, who replaced Marije Johnston in 2023.
’Goodbye and a thank you hug to Juliette and only gratitude to so many people who’ve been the affirmative, sometimes chaotic and highly enjoyable part of being a quartet in transition,’ the ensemble said on Instagram, shortly before welcoming Horvat to the group.
Horvat is a founding member of the Brompton Quartet, with which she gave her debut performance at Wigmore Hall in 2021 and won the St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition.
She is a member of the Astatine Trio, which was recently named as one of BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists for 2025-27.
Horvat is a graduate of the Conservatory for Music and Ballet Ljubljana, where she studied with Volodja Balžalorsky. She was a Victor and Lillian Hochhauser Scholar at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, studying with Daniel Rowland and Leonid Kerbel. She completed her artist diploma at RCM in June 2022 under the tutelage of Alina Ibragimova.
The Heath Quartet will perform at Kettle’s Yard house on 22 May 2025. Recent highlights include a two-season residency at Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal, its Barcelona debut in Palau de la Musica Catalana, a Beethoven series at Bath Festival, debuts at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Saffron Hall and Cheltenham Festival, as well as concerts at Handelsbeurs Ghent, Aldeburgh and Norfolk & Norwich festivals.
The ensemble became string quartet in residence at Middlesex University in 2025.
