The Singapore International Violin Competition is currently underway, taking place from 24 January–7 February. The semi-final round concluded on 2 February, with twelve violinists having performed 60-minute recitals with prescribed sonatas, along with the competition’s commissioned work Soliloquy by David Loke.

Six violinists have been selected to progress to the next round. They are:

SongHa Choi

Michael Germer

Zou Meng

Georgii Moroz

Qingzhu Weng

The selected candidates will take part in the final round at the Victoria Concert Hall on 4–5 February, performing chamber music with the Shanghai Quartet. From this, three grand finalists will be chosen to perform concertos with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Joshua Tan.

The violinists compete for the first prize of $50,000 and a prize pool totalling over $110,000, as well as concert engagements. These top six winners are also set to receive three-year fine violin loans from the Rin Collection.

This year’s jury comprises Shmuel Ashkenasi, Augustin Dumay, Koichiro Harada, Ida Kavafian, Barnabás Kelemen, Itzhak Rashkovsky, Paul Roczek, Pavel Vernikov and Lina Yu, with artistic director Qian Zhou as chair.
